objects in different positions in the frame.

For this set of photgraphs I headed off to the local park with a friend in tow to pose for me.
I started off by positioning her in the middle of the frame, this I thinked worked the best the focal point was right in the middle of the photograph where the eye seems to naturally be drawn.
Number two this time I took her standing at the bottom right of the picture looking into an empty space, I quite like this one as she is looking into the space in the picture.
Number three was taken with her in the top right hand side, this one didn't seem to work so well as the eye seems to miss her and is again drawn to the centre of the photograph.
The last one I took she was to the bottom right of the photograph, I did not like the position of this one at all ther seems to be too much empty space and she is looking out of the frame.

What have I learnt?
I have learnt that you need to think carefully about where you position whatever you are photographing, sometimes it works well the the subject in the middle but there are other times when you can have the subjuct to one side but you then need to think carefully particulally if you are photographing people where they are looking.
For this exercise I also tried to use the model in slightly different poses to see if that made any difference to the photograph, my favorite ones are where she is kneeling down.

exercise fitting the frame to the subjuect.

For this exercise I decided to do some still life work, and used a vase I had brought many years ago on a holiday to Cyprus. I took the first photograph quickly without giving it a lot of thought , the second one was taken having given it more thought so that the vase filled the picture, number three was just a section ogf it, I chose the tip section to highlight the swirl on the handle and also the gold work around the top. The last photograph was taken so that the vase was alot smaller in the photograph.
I then hand a pair of L shapes and tried various 'crops' of the photographs, I found that I could crop number 1 and number 4 to make a better photograph, so that they filled the frame better number two I found worked as it was and number 3 I found I could do a slightly tighter crop to just show the neck of the vase and the handle.

What have I learned from this lesson? I have learnt that it is possible to have a good photograph of just part of an object or a scene it is not always necessary to show the whole object and sometime by picking a certain part you can convay a better message or photograph.
