Exhibitions and TV Programmes

David Bailey Hayes interview on Sky arts where he discussed his book taken in aid on Military charities in Afghanistan, a very interesting interview where he almost dismissed his shots as snaps.

Brian Aris Exhibition in Whitstable Kent, A fascinating mixture of photographs, more details are included in my photographers I am interested in.

TV Programme on sky arts called Close up photographers at work, this programme was very interesting it was about several different photographers Andrew Moore and Gregory Crewson to name two of them and they talked about what to them made a good photograph, there were several different ideas like do I want to look at it one twice would I be happy to hang it on my wall, a photograph can also convey moods by having powerful content, this made me think back to the Brian Aris exhibition I had seen previously and the photographs he had of Bob Geldof in Africa and also some shots of his from the trouble in Ireland. They also said that the best way to learn about photograph is to take the camera off the auto mode and just experiment with it to understand and learn about the relationship between the f stop shutter speed and iso, they also said that you should try not to get so wrapped up in the technical side that you miss a great shot, and how you find your subject and be honest in your own vision to make the photograph meaningful. A thought provoking programme that I enjoyed.

The Association of Photographers on line exhibition: I came across an article about this in one of my photography magazines, the one they was advertising was called British Spirit 1908 to 2012.
An exhibition of photographs spanning across the years including photographs of the diamond jubilee, and Olympics, some of the photographs I found inspiring I liked the photograph by Simon Kirwan of a blind ex serviceman     holding the torch, other photographs had been used in advertising and the expressions captured by Beatrice Heydir on the face of a child in her photograph for the Callezioni Italy story 2009 was just beautiful, it has really given me something to aim for in my own work.
Whilst looking through the photographs I came across one of a union flag with a bull dog sitting on a union flag cushion wearing a union flag bandanna by Alex Grace, who had got their inspiration from the jubilee celebrations, I found this particularly interesting as I had done a similar thing with a union flag and my own dog wearing a union bandanna.

I have since discovered that there is a different exhibition each month and I will be looking at the website from time to time to see what is happening.

As a member of my local camera club we have various photographers visit us during the course of the year one such photographer was Glynn Barham a local photographer who showed a lot of motion photographs racing cars drag racing etc, he also shown a series of landscape photographs most of which were shot either early in the morning or early evening as he liked the softness of the light at these times I found his talk very interesting having done the section on light it was nice to see it backed up with another photographers photographs and opinions, in fact it has helped my with landscape work as that is something I have struggled with before.
